Islantilla promotes the practice of water sports among people with reduced mobility

Some thirty young people with special abilities have had the opportunity to experience first-hand the practice of nautical activities in the Islantilla Beach through a pioneering initiative framed in the Days of Empowerment 'Laboratory of ideas on employment, accessibility and participation of the Young people with disabilities' organized by the Provincial Federation of Associations of People with Physical and Organic Disability in Seville (FAMS-COCEMFE Sevilla).  

The initiative has had the collaboration of EEV Spanish Sailing School, one of the two nautical concessionaires that operate in the Islantilla beach and that on this occasion has offered the opportunity to enjoy the sea to a handful of boys and girls between 18 and 30 who have participated in these days.

The uniqueness of this experience has been the first contact of this group with a nautical sport, which directly connects with the philosophy of these days, whose objective has been objective to address the barriers faced by these young people in the workplace, training , etc; as well as possible proposals that generate employment or self-employment.

The conferences, which took place on May 9 and 10, are integrated into the Empower Youth Without Limits Project, and consisted of meetings, roundtables, dialogues between young people with disabilities and political leaders, as well as activities such as the aforementioned walks. in catamaran, among others. In turn, these days are part of the Erasmus + Program of the European Union.

The Islantilla destination has a long tradition in accessibility and the reduction of architectural barriers, as well as in the provision of services aimed at the group of people with reduced mobility, such as the bath with amphibian chairs and crutches, or the habilitation of walkways and special shadow areas on the beach.
